Neverland Express Lineup History
Through cross-referencing prior knowledge with pre-existing lists, and by contacting many ex-members of this fantastic band, I've here been able to compile the most accurate, complete and up-to-date lineup history of the often overlooked Neverland Express, the band first set up in mid-1976 for touring Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman's epic Bat Out Of Hell, really not in a dissimilar fashion to Todd Rundgren's Utopia set up for touring his 1972 epic A Wizard, A True Star. The band was initially just referred to as "Meat Loaf" but in 1981 the name "Neverland Express" came into use, and would remain the official name of the band except for between 2018 and 2022 when the band was known as "The Neverland Band".
A big thank you to all members of the band but notable thanks to Karla DeVito, George Borowski, Terry Williams, Corky Laing, the fantastic late Allan Merrill, as well as Elaine Goff, Martin Gerschwitz, Cindy Thrall, Domenic Cicchetti, Mark Alexander and last but certainly not least the local Sara Douglas! I'd also like to thank the many fans and close friends of the band who have also helped compile this list, this project has taken three years and during this time we have seen the tragic passings of several key members of this important group. The original idea for the Neverland Band was that the lineup would rotate. After Meat Loaf was too ill to go out and do the Braver Than We Are Tour, Paul Crook had the idea of getting the band on the road to keep the band making a living, and at any show if he was feeling up for it, Meat could get flown out and take over the lead vocal role from Caleb Johnson, and continue the tour as a Meat Loaf tour. Unfortunately this never happened, although thankfully we did get to see 3 instances of Meat Loaf performing live in 2021.
What is also shown here are the other people who were initially in the live band during rehearsals in 2018, when it was initially announced that similar to swapping Meat for Caleb, there would be a couple different lineups of the band - and depending on the show it could have been either Lyssa Lynne or Cian Coey on lead female vocals, it could be either Paul Crook or Pat Thrall on lead guitar, Danny Miranda or Nick Dimichino on bass, and so on... Most of these did happen, although I've never found any evidence that Pat Thrall played live the band sadly...
